1. HK Stocks Cap Longest Losing Streak Since 2008
The Hang Seng Index declined for a 7th day, the longest stretch of losses since the collapse of Lehman Brothers. It fell 0.2% as lower oil prices dragged down energy producers and home sales sank to a 2-year low. 
 
2. Taiwan Consumer Prices Gain 1.34%
The Apr year-on-year increase was compared with a revised 1.4% gain in Mar. The government forecasts inflation will accelerate to 2.18% this year from 0.96% in 2010 as the island extends export-fueled growth.
 
3. India's Bharti Q4 Profit Slumps 31%
Net income of the biggest mobile carrier of the nation fell to US$314.3 million in the 3 months ending Mar. Revenue jumped 51% after it acquired Kuwait telecom firm Zain for US$10.7 billion last June.
 
4. Indonesia GDP Grows 6.5% in Q1
The annual growth rate was down from a 6.9% gain in the previous quarter and lower than expected. Investment rose 27.3% in the 3 months to Mar 31 from the same period a year earlier.
 
5. KDB Considers Bidding Woori Stake
The S Korean government may announce plans on how to sell its 57% stake in Woori Finance before the end of June. KDB, the largest state-owned banking group, may bid for the stake. 
 
6. Philippine Apr Inflation Climbs 4.5%
The year-on-year increase was the fastest pace in 24 months, compared with a 4.3% gain in Mar. The gauge added to the pressure on the central bank to raise interest rates.
 
7. China's LiuGong to Buy Stake of Poland Firm
The maker of heavy machinery is set to acquire a stake in Poland's HSW Stalowa Wola which specializes in bulldozers. It was reported that the value of the stake exceeds US$94 million.
 
8. Krakatau Plans US$690M Iron Mill
Indonesia's largest steelmaker wants to build a new plant with a capacity of 1.2 million tons a year. Construction will begin in Q3 of this year and is expected to complete by 2014. 
 
9. Workers Enter Japan Reactor for 1st Time since Mar 11 Blast
Two TEPCO staff and 10 contractors with protective suits, masks and air tanks worked for 1-hours, moving in and out in small groups to connect duct pipes to ventilators that will filter out 95% of the radioactive material in the air.
 
10. "Banker to the Poor" Loses Final Appeal
Bangladesh's Supreme Court rejected a final appeal by Nobel laureate Muhammad Yunus against his dismissal as managing director of Grameen Bank, the micro-lender he founded. A government probe last month cleared Grameen of financial irregularities, but the finding did not change the decision to fire him.
