1. China Apr Trade Surplus Climbs to US$11.4B
Imports totaled US$144.3 billion but the growth was down to 21.8% from a 32.6% advance in Mar. Exports gained 29.9% to US$155.7 billion. China posted a trade deficit for the first 3 months of 2011 and a surplus of just US$140 million for Mar. 
 
2. Mitsui, Daewoo Wins US$1.2B Order
The two companies got the order from Abu Dhabi National Energy to build a thermal power plant in Morocco. Mitsubishi Heavy Industries will supply steam turbines for the plant.
 
3. Jaguar Land Rover to Issue US$1.6B Bonds
The luxury carmaker's India parent Tata Motors will use the funds to refinance debts and develop its operations. The Indian firm bought Jaguar and Land Rover from Ford Motor in 2008 for US$2.3 billion.
 
4. China Auto Jan-Apr Sales Jump 6% on Year
The nation sold 6.53 million cars in the first 4 months this year, slowing from a double-digit growth seen in past years. Sales jumped 32% last year to over 18 million units.
 
5. Philippine Exports Gain 4%
The shipment climbed to US$4.35 billion in Mar, after gaining a revised 8.3% year-on-year in Feb. The figure was disrupted by Japan's record earthquake and worse than expected.
 
6. Toyota Said to Resume Full Capacity Sooner
Japanese media said the automaker's output will normalize earlier than the end of this year as parts shortages are easing, 3 months sooner than expected.
 
7. Pertamina Bids US$1.17B for Exxon Stake
Indonesia's state energy company offered to buy Exxon's 25% stake in an Angolan oil block, as it beat off competition from China's Sinopec Group, and India's Oil & Natural Gas Corp.. 
 
8. PLDT Q1 Profit Falls 6.14%
Net income of the Philippine telephone giant was down from US$248.8 million. Service revenue dropped 4%. PLDT kept the core income guidance this year unchanged at US$942 million.
 
9. Top UN Official to Visit Myanmar
The chief of staff to UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon will visit Myanmar this week for the first time since the dissolution of the junta and the appointment of a nominally civilian government. He is expected to meet government figures and opposition leader Aung San Suu Kyi. 
 
10. S Korea to Invite North to Summit
President Lee Myung-bak said he is ready to invite N Korea's leader Kim Jong-il to a nuclear summit next Mar if Kim agreed to renounce nuclear weapons.
