1. 長江基建擬44億美元購英國水廠
香港首富李嘉誠的旗艦公司提出,以每股7.37美元收購Northumbrian水廠。長建在7月1日已表示,有意購入該家擁有440萬客戶的公用企業。
2. 雀巢斥17億美元私有徐福記
該全球最大食品商提出,以每股3.57美元收購該家新加坡上市的中國食品商的60%股份。徐氏家族在私有化後,將續持有40%股權。

1. Hong Kong's CKI Proposes US$3.8B Takeover of UK Firm
Billionaire Li Ka-shing's infrastructure flagship, Cheung Kong Infrastructure, made an offer of US$7.37 a share for Northumpbrian Water Group. It made an indicative proposal on July 1 for the supplier with 4.4 million customers.
2. Nestle Buys Chinese Candy Maker for US$1.72B
The largest food maker in the world will privatize Hsu Fu Chi as it offered US$3.57 to buy a 60% stake from the public and the Hsu family. The latter will keep stakes of 40% after Hsu Fu Chi was de-listed from the Singapore bourse.
3. Standard Chartered Closes 43 Branches in Korea
The bank's S Korea arm announced the closure of the branches out of a total of 392, after 2,500 of its 6,500 employees staged a walkout from June 27 to protest against a proposed incentive-based compensation system.
4. India Car Sales Jump 1.6% on Year
Autosales in June climbed to 143,370 vehicles, compared with 141,086 units a year earlier. The annual growth was the slowest since Mar 2009.
5. Foxconn to List Retail Unit in Taiwan
The maker of iPhone may sell shares of its retail unit in Taipei but did not give a timeline for the issue. The unit's revenue is expected to hit US$1.2B within 23 years.
6. Malaysia Output Drops 5.1%
The May industrial production at factories, utilities and mines fell for a 2nd month, compared with a revised 1.7% decline in the previous month.
7. Nissan Works on Recharging Leaf with Solar Power
The Japanese automaker generated electricity through 488 solar cells installed on the roof of its headquarters. Nissan is currently testing a super-green way to recharge its Leaf electric vehicle using solar power.
8. China Cuts Q1 Current Account Surplus
The surplus was down 21% from a year earlier to US$2.88B. That was US$1B less than the figure published in May. The net inflow of direct investment was US$44.8B in Q1, compared with US$42.6B announced earlier.
9. Death Toll of Train Accident Rises to 67 in India
Rescue workers pulled more bodies from the mangled wreckage of a passenger train that derailed with 1,000 people on board. The incident took place on Sunday afternoon. Over 100 were also injured.
10. Japan Reactors Could Restart after Stress Tests
The government said the 35 idled nuclear reactors could resume operations if they pass the first stage of the new safety tests, but there is still no timetable for restarting.
