9. 越南手足口病釀70死

1. Samsung Q2 Profit Drops 18%
Net income of the S Korean electronics giant was US$3.33 billion, down from US$4.06 billion a year earlier. Sales rose 4.1% to US$37.38 billion. Samsung expects demand for mobile phone to increase 15% in the second half.
2. Japan: Yen Rising too Much
Finance Minister Yoshihiko Noda warned the yen was deviating from Japan's economic fundamentals after the currency hit a 4-month low of 77.48. He said that the country will take decisive action against excessive exchange rate volatility.
3. Swire Sells HK Property for US$2.4B
The sale of the Festival Walk Shopping Center to Singapore's Temasek was the largest property transaction ever in Hong Kong. Swire Pacific will book a profit of US$205 million.

The Shanghai Composite Index fell 7 points to close at 2,701.73. as a delayed debt-limit vote by U.S. lawmakers fueled concerns. It slid 2.5% this week, the most since the period to May 27.
5. Mitsubishi Q1 Profit Down 18%
Japan's biggest trading house posted a net income of US$1.48B for 3 months ended June 30, as it kept its fiscal year profit and sales forecast unchanged at US$5.8 billion and US$264.4 billion respectively.
6. S Korea Output Gains 0.7% on Year
The June month-on-month increase was lower than expected, compared with 1.7% advance in May. On annual basis the output grew 6.4%, down from a 8.3% gain in the previous month.
7. AIA H1 Profit Jumps 24%
Net income of the Hong Kong based insurance giant was US$1.31 billion in the 6 month ended May 31, which was better than expected. AIA's premium income climbed 13% to US$5.78 billion.
8. Singapore Jobless Rate Climbs to 2.1%
The seasonally adjusted gauge in Q2 was compared to 1.9% in the previous quarter and higher than expected. The country added 22,800 jobs last quarter, down from 28,300 in Q1.
9. Hand, Foot, Mouth Disease Kills 70 in Vietnam
A state media said the outbreak of hand, foot and mouth disease has killed 70 people so far this year in the country and infected more than 23,000, mostly children under 5.
10. S Korea Officials Under Fire as Storm Toll Hits 59
Experts and news media criticized Seoul city authorities, as the death toll of this week's rain storm rose to 59 while 10 were still missing. Record rainfall has left more than 11,000 people from 5,250 households homeless.
