1. China Stocks Gain Most in 10 Months
The Shanghai Composite Index advanced 73.4, the biggest jump since Oct 15, after Bank of China reported a record profit and investors speculated the Chinese government would spend more to boost the economy.
2. Samsung Rises on Dutch Ruling, Jobs' Leave
The S Korean giant gained as much as 4.2% as it "won" a court case in the Netherlands that its smart-phones Galaxy S, S II and Ace had broken just one of three patents at issue. It's believed that Apple CEO Steve Jobs' resignation could also benefit Samsung.
3. Wharf H1 Underlying Profit Drops 22%
Net income excluding property revaluation and one-time gain of the Hong Kong major landlord fell to US$423 million in the 6 months ended June 30. Including revaluation, its profit jumped 31% from a year earlier.
4. Indonesia Q3 GDP to Grow 6.5%
Financial Ministry of the nation also estimated the economic growth in Q4 to be higher while the 2011 growth may reach 6.6% due to robust private consumption.
5. Tesco Said to Hire Banks for Yuan-dominated Sale of Bonds

It marked the fastest pace in 13 months. Imports gained 13.5% from a year earlier, compared with a 26.1% jump in June. Trade surplus climbed to US$2.8 billion from US$1.27 billion in the previous month.
7. Maxis Q2 Net Climbs 3.5%
Net profit for the 3 months ended June 30 of Malaysia's largest mobile carrier was US$184.9 million. Revenue for the quarter dropped 1.8% to US$725 million.
8. Vietnam Posts Trade Deficit of US$800M in Aug
The balance swung to deficit, compared with a revised US$1.1 billion surplus in July. For the first 8 months of this year, the country will likely report a trade deficit of US$6.2 billion.
9. Militant Attacks Kill 5 in Thailand
Police said about 10 militants attacked their base on Wednesday, leaving 1 soldier and 1 paramilitary ranger dead. Two other attacks also killed 3, including a 4-year-old girl, and wounded 10.
10. China State Media Blasts US Defense Report
Xinhua News Agency blasted a Pentagon report on the Chinese military as a smear that exaggerates the threat Beijing poses to the region. It reasserted China's claim that its military posture is entirely defensive. The Pentagon report estimates China spent more than US$160 billion for its military in 2010.
