1. China Manufacturing Growth Rebounds
The official PMI rose to 50.9 in August from a 28-month low of 50.7 in July. The HSBC purchasing managers index also climbed to 49.9 from July’s 49.3.
 
2. Japan Auto Sales Decline for 12th Month
The nation sold 216,510 vehicles, excluding mini-cars last month, down 26% from a year earlier. Toyota's sales fell 26% to 98,376 units. Nissan and Honda also reported drops of 25% and 49%. 
 
3. S Korea CPI Hits 3-year High
The inflation rate in August was a higher-than-expected 5.3%, compared to 4.7% in July. Separately, the country posted a trade surplus of US$821 million last month, while exports climbed 27.1% and imports gained 29.2%. 
 
4. China Plans to Restructure Sovereign Fund
The nation is considering a plan to spin off the domestic investment arm of the US$300 billion China Investment Corp. The central bank will also inject US$15.68 billion of new fund into CIC International. 
 
5. India Exports Gain 81.8%
Overseas shipments rose to US$29.3 billion in July. Imports also gained 51.5% to US$40.4 billion from a year earlier. The trade deficit widened to US$11.1 billion. 
 
6. Asian Stocks Climb for 6th Day
The MSCI Asia Pacific Index jumped 0.5% in late afternoon, after gaining as much as 1.4% earlier, on signs that the global economy will avoid a recession.
 
7. Thai Annual Inflation Rises to 4.29%
The growth of consumer prices accelerated in Aug to the fastest pace since 2008, following a 4.08% gain in July. Core inflation jumped to 2.85%, which was higher than expected.
 
8. Macau Casino Revenue Jumps 57%
The revenue jumped to US$3.17 billion in August. Gaming revenue totaled US$22.2 billion in the first 8 months this year, 47% more than a year earlier.
 
9. 7 People Killed by Old Bomb in Myanmar
The people were killed when an old World War II bomb found in a river exploded in the western region, while they tried to retrieved it from the river. The dead included 2 children. 
 
10. China Confronts India Warship off Vietnam
The Financial Times said an unidentified Chinese warship demanded that an Indian naval vessel identify itself and explain its presence in South China Sea waters off Vietnam in July.
