1. Japan Aug Retail Sales Drop 2.6% on Year
Sales fell to US$143 billion last month. The figure was worse than expected, compared with a 0.3% contraction in July. Sales fell a seasonally-adjusted 1.7% from the previous month.
2. CapitaMalls Plans US$1B Chinese Shopping Centre
The Singapore REITs will build a shopping mall and two office towers in eastern Suzhou city with 310,000 square meters of total floor area. 44% of total assets of the firms were located in China.
3. S Korea Current Account Surplus Down to 7-month Low
The Aug surplus was US$401.3 million, compared with a revised US$3.77 billion in the previous month. The goods balance posted a surplus of US$480.2 million from a revised US$4.73 billion in July.
4. China Stocks Fall to 14-month Low
The Shanghai Composite Index declined 26.72 to 2,365.34, its lowest close since July 5 2011, on concern that economic growth will slow as the Chinese government maintains measure to curb inflation.
5. Several Bidders Consider Buying HSBC Unit
The Hong Kong-based lender has sent out information to potential bidders for its general, non-life insurance business, which may worth more than US$1 billion. Allianz, AXA, QBE, PICC and Tokio Marine are likely to be interested in the auction.

The Malaysian buyout firm is seeking a buyer for King's Safetywear that valued US$300 million to US$500 million, after privatizing the company for about US$77 million in Dec 2008.
9. Indonesia Small Plane Crashes, 18 Feared Dead
Local authority said the CASA C-212 aircraft, carrying 3 crew members and 15 passengers, went down in the western region. Rugged terrain and rains hampered searchers trying to reach the wreckage.
10. Typhoon Hits HK after Striking Philippine
Hong Kong's stock exchange was closed as Typhoon Nesat made its way across South China Sea to China's Hainan Island. 50 residents had to be evacuated after a cargo barge broke free from its moorings and slammed into the seawall in Heng Fa Chuen on Hong Kong Island. The storm killed 35 people and left another 45 missing in the Philippines.
