1. Japan Core Machinery Order Gains 11%
The month-on-month increase in August compared to the 8.2% drop in the previous month. On annual basis the gauge jumped 2.1% while the government maintains its assessment it was on a recovery trend.
 
2. China Stocks Jump Most in Year
The Shanghai Composite Index climbed 3%, the most since Oct 15 2010 on speculations the government may bolster the stock market. Hong Kong's Hang Seng Index also gained 1%.  
 
3. S Korea Jobless Rate Climbs to 3.2%
The seasonally-adjusted rate in Sep was up from 3.1% in Aug. The number of people with jobs increased by 264,000 from a year earlier.
 
4. Nomura Said to Sell Skylark to Bain Capital for US$3.3B
Local media reported both firms were close to reach a deal. Nomura Principal Finance, Japan's largest brokerage, owned a 40.2% stake in the restaurant operator and the investors led by Nomura held 34.7%.
 
5. China's Foshan Reverses Property Easing Measures
The southern city suspended its decision 1 day ago to allow residents to buy a second home priced at less than US$1,180 per sq. meter. Some analysts said the announcement showed the city faced the central government's pressure to cool down property market.
 
6. Infosys Quarterly Net Jumps 9.7%
The profit of India's 2nd largest software service provider jumped to US$387 million in the 3 months ending September. It cut the dollar revenue growth forecast to 17.1% to 19.1% from 18% to 20%. 
 
7. Philippines Announces US$1.66B Stimulus Package
The government hopes to boost its economy to ward off the global economic slowdown caused by Europe's debt crisis. President Aquino set the growth target for 2012 at 5% to 6%, same as this year's estimation. 
 
8. AirAsia Calls off Vietnam Joint Venture
The Malaysia-based carrier will cancel the plan with VietJet Aviation to form a low-cost airline, citing a failure to obtain Vietnamese regulatory approval. AirAsia announced in February it had bought a 30% stake in VietJet for the venture.
 
9. China Signs Deal with Vietnam to Resolve Sea Dispute
In a bid to resolve maritime disputes, both governments agreed a 6-point agreement that calls for twice yearly meetings and the setting up of a hotline to deal with emergencies.
 
10. Unauthorized Access Hits Sony PlayStation Accounts
The Japanese electronic giant said the attempts occurred between Oct 7 and 10. Sony temporarily locked 93,000 accounts whose IDs and passwords were successfully ascertained by the blitz.
